Presentation abstract: Self-Service Analytics is replacing the traditional IT-driven by enabling end users to design their own reports with minimal assistance. Oracle tools like Data Visualisation Cloud and Desktop, or the Analytics Cloud Suite are perfect for this purpose.

The dark side of Self-Service Analytic is that it requires additional knowledge: datasources, relations between items and aggregation methods are only few of the concepts which end users need to assimilate before producing results. Self-Service Analytic tools providing only some support in this area based on column names, types or values.

What if dimensions, hierarchies and aggregation methods could be retrieved directly in the source system? Analytic Views provide exactly that: a new way of modelling metadata directly in the database.

In this presentation we'll see how to define attributes, hierarchies and metrics in the Analytic Views on top of existing data structures and how end users can benefit when using self-service tools
